Health Science
Barbara Terry
The Bibb County Career Academy Health Science Technology (HST) class is instructed by Mrs. Barbara Terry. Mrs. Terry is a registered nurse with over 40 years of experience. She has been employed by the Bibb County Board of Education since 1999 when she took the job of Lead School Nurse for the system. She has been the Health Science / HOSA instructor since 2010.
Mrs. Terry holds her students to a high standard and urges students to work hard and do their best. The medical field has an abundance of job opportunities. However, admission into any medical program is extremely competitive. Students are taught anatomy and physiology, infection control procedures, emergency care and first aid, healthcare safety, employment opportunities in the medical field, medical terminology and the ethical and legal aspects of working in the medical field.
Since BCCA is a Simulated Workplace,HST students must be productive and follow all classroom and lab rules while on campus. This simulates how students must conduct themselves while on the job. Students are also required to dress and act professionally in the classroom. All aspects of HST are set in place to help prepare students for college and future careers in the medical field.
HST's student organization, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), is a vital part of BCCA's Health Science program. Students learn that they are part of a national student organization of like-minded young people who are hoping to earn a degree in the medical field. Monthly meetings are held to allow students the opportunity to learn more about the medical field and possible career opportunities available.
