Cosmetology

Becky Horton

Becky Horton is the Cosmetology instructor at the Bibb County Career Academy.  She attended Shelton State Community College and Athens State.  Mrs. Horton has been a licensed cosmetologist for 36 years.  She was a Cosmetology instructor at Shelton State Community College for 16 years.  Mrs. Horton also owned her own business.  She has taught Cosmetology at BCCA for the last 16 years.

Students enrolled in the Cosmetology course have the opportunity to earn a credential upon completion of the program.  This credential is the same credential that those working in the customer service field would obtain.  This opens the door for Mrs. Horton's students to attend any cosmetology school or secure employment in any public service job for which they apply.  In addition to the credential, students keep track of the hours spent on task.  These hours can be applied to their State Board of Cosmetology exam helping them to be one step closer to a career in Cosmetology.

The Cosmetology program includes the following topics:

-- Customer Service and Retail credential (through the National Retail Federation)

-- Introduction to Nails (manicures, pedicures and acrylic nails)

-- Hair Coloring

-- Salon Practice and Management
