Cosmetology
Amber Brown
Amber Brown, BCCA’s Cosmetology Instructor, has been in the cosmetology industry for over
20 years. She attended Shelton State Community College and Winonah School of Cosmetology.
She was previously a salon owner and loved her career behind the chair. This is her first year as
a part of the BCCA staff.
The Cosmetology program at BCCA allows the students to learn and be “hands on” in a salon
setting. The students are introduced to the industry by learning foundational standards relating
to hair and skin care. All courses provide students with a study of concepts related to the
cosmetology profession. Specific topics include cosmetology history and opportunities,
professional image, infection control, and fundamentals of hair care and design. Students also
gain initial practical experience in sanitation, shampooing, hair shaping, and hair styling.
Advanced courses focus on chemical services, haircutting, and salon business. Upon successful
completion of these courses, students are able to practice safety and sanitary precautions as
they perform basic cosmetology procedures. All students enrolled in the Cosmetology program
at BCCA are considered “future professionals.” The program gives them the opportunity to
explore the occupation of cosmetology and the basic requirements of the workforce.
The Cosmetology program includes the following topics:
